This year, the number of tourists seeking refunds has surpassed 1.2 million, with a total refund of 2.3 billion baht against a combined spending of 42 billion baht. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, tourist spending hit its lowest point in 2021, amounting to 956 million baht. Nonetheless, 7,800 visitors still received a refund of 55 million baht.

In an effort to further facilitate the process, the government has proposed the establishment of a one-stop VAT refund counter at customs checkpoints, aiming to simplify the refund procedure for tourists.
